Great Western Railway (GWR) is launching its January Sale on Friday, January 2, 2026, running until Monday, January 5, 2026. Here are the key details:

Ticket Availability: 225,000 discounted train tickets, including 150,000 Standard and 75,000 First Class seats, offering up to 50% off popular Advance fares.

Travel Period: Valid for travel between Friday, January 9, 2026, and Friday, April 10, 2026 (excluding Sundays and selected dates).

Example Prices: A London to Bristol ticket could cost around £44, reduced to £22.

Booking: Tickets can be booked at gwr.com/sale.

We have booked 6 return trips, £ 12 for each. Brilliant. Will have bring an inflatable cusion though as the seats are awful.

The GWR sale starts tomorrow 2 January and closes on Monday 5 January. During which period 150,000 standard class and 75,000 first class tickets will be heavily discounted, with possible further reductions available for holders of Railcards Travel must be between 9 January to 10 April.

Additionally, many other train operators will be holding a sale too but the dates for purchase do not match those of GWR. The GOV.UK website states the sale is from 6 to 12 January with the period of travel starting on 13 January and ending on 25 March. Over 3,000,000 tickets will be available across the nation's rail network.

You are right Helen.......jumping the gun.......I have booked 40 spaces to go to Malvern Theatre for u3a feb 26th so dealing  direct with them. I am told available tomorrow. PS Some theatre tickets will be available (Morse) for potential u3a members.

GWR announces discounted train tickets in January sale

Great Western Railway offers discounts on tickets for Devon and beyond

150,000 cheap train tickets are being made available at an even greater reduced price

Great Western Railway (GWR) has announced the launch of its January Sale, offering discounted train tickets across its network, including for passengers travelling from stations in Devon.

From 2 January to 9 January 2025, GWR is offering 150,000 discounted tickets, including 100,000 standard class and 50,000 First Class seats, at 50 per cent off its popular Advance fares.

These tickets will be available for travel between 10 January and 13 April 2025, making it the perfect opportunity to plan a getaway in the New Year.

The discounted fares are available from stations across Devon, including Ivybridge, Plymouth, Exeter, and Okehampton, as well as other destinations along the GWR network, which stretches from Cornwall to London.

I think you may have picked up on the January sale earlier this year (i hope they run this again for 2026)

They do have a Black Friday sale though
