Sun 14 Dec 2025, 19:01 Done. Well, I tried! Many thanks to Christopher for his guidance. This online consultation was, for me, at any rate, jolly hard to navigate, and I think my objections in relation to the two areas have got scrambled. I admit that it might be me, as I found it so challenging. I think I have carpal tunnel syndrome and the equivalent of computer screen "snow blindness". |

Sat 15 Nov 2025, 07:36 Is it 'sweetening the impact' or 'mitigating the damage'?? |

Fri 14 Nov 2025, 18:38 I think it would be sensible for comments on these potential housing sites to be based on the suitability or otherwise of the proposed locations, rather than on whether the developer could be asked to sweeten the impact on the local community by funding something else at the same time. In my view the biggest potential issue with the Hydac site is the possible impact on road safety if access for the new residents is expected to be to/from the B4022. This has been recognised as a potential issue for access to/from the massive new barn that is due to be built adjacent to this site, and obviously the number of vehicles serving 40 new houses is likely to be considerably more than for a barn, even if most of the vehicles are likely to be able to manoeuvre a bit more speedily than heavy agricultural vehicles. |

Tue 11 Nov 2025, 15:59 If anyone wants to know where all the S106 money goes… it doesn’t. A council had about £13.2m unspent for infrastructure projects at the start of the current financial year, it said. West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) said having the "relatively large amount of money" is "not an unusual position" for an authority to be in. But it said officers "acknowledge that more could be done to proactively identify new projects" that could use it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gp7epd72yo.amp https://www.thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/news/24703621.outrage-county-highest-amount-unspent-cash/ |

Tue 11 Nov 2025, 07:17 I don't think they do as a few years ago chipping Norton health centre had an info sheet about new housing in the town saying they wouldn't be able to cope with the number of new patients and asking patients to respond to the council. The housing went ahead and the health centre can't cope...... |

Tue 11 Nov 2025, 06:54 (last edited on Tue 11 Nov 2025, 08:33) Knowing nothing about the way this works, can anyone confirm that they look at the town as a whole to see if it can sustain an extra 40-80 houses? Assuming these are a minimum of 2 bed houses, so at least 3 people living there, that is 240 new patients at the doctor's etc. I'm not even going to mention the parking...... |

Mon 10 Nov 2025, 20:53 It looks to me as if the Hydac site is already being prepared for building. |

Mon 10 Nov 2025, 17:29 (last edited on Mon 10 Nov 2025, 22:11) Long long ago, on a planet far, far away – or so it increasingly feels - I was once a (government appointed) Planning Inspector. And was ‘lead’ author of the Housing chapter of the Charlbury Neighbourhood Plan, which we adopted in 2021 – though it was mostly written sometime before… |

Sun 9 Nov 2025, 13:00 (last edited on Sun 9 Nov 2025, 13:14) WODC have just published online a consultation about potential development sites across the district between now and 2043. The consultation runs until 22 December 2025, with people asked to give their views on 70 strategic development sites. The website is here: https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/media/ae0jcxni/local-plan-preferred-spatial-options-consultation-october-2025.pdf Two sites for housing in Charlbury have been identified: See pp 70 - 72, areas O and P. Area O is land adjacent to Jefferson's Piece for c. 40 houses -- with access via Jefferson's Piece, The Green estate, including the removal of the garages adjacent to Jefferson's Piece, and Ditchley Road. Area P is land south of Hydac, also for c40 houses, with access via the Fawler Road and Woodstock Road. Area O has been considered previously, see the 2017/18 application for a similar development for land north of Jefferson's Piece. The numerous previous comments and documents are viewable online here: https://publicaccess.westoxon.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=OTHCT5RKLSL00 Jefferson's Piece was also discussed extensively on this forum. See, for example, https://www.charlbury.info/forum/post/29144 and https://www.charlbury.info/forum/4059#23963 Can I urge everyone to look at the documents and see if they wish to respond to the question about whether these are suitable development sites. |
