Hedgehogs about

There are hedgehogs and hedgehog supporters around town,  we've a rough idea of where the hedgehogs are in Charlbury, although they move up to two miles to find food and each other, they get around.  The best thing is for us to open up our gardens so they can move around easily, make sure we have wild patches, there is water for them to drink,  and drive carefully. If anyone sees a hedgehog out during the day that looks wobbly then it needs attention quickly.   The juveniles need to put on weight now, to be at least 500g to get through hibernation. Flora, do you know if anyone is monitoring hedgehog activity across the town? I know you can log sightings on hedgehogstreet, but there are few in the town. Perhaps people don't know of this and also given their nocturnal nature, they are difficult to sport, although with the longer nights, they seem to be active from around 20:30.

We've just found a mother and three juvenile hedgehogs in a lovely leafy nest in someone's garden, all looked in good health.

At this time of year the young ones need to put on weight fast so they can get through winter. Please keep water out for hedgehogs and other creatures and if you know you have hedgehogs around perhaps put some dry kitten food out for them. It also helps to make sure there is access through to other gardens, hedgehog corridors, to make finding food and each other easier. Thanks.
