A rare species of bumblebee has been spotted near Charlbury on the Southill Solar farm site. There are 24 species of bumblebee in Britain but only eight of them are common. This unusual one was a brown-banded carder bee, distinguished by black hairs under its wings. It was observed earlier this month quite by chance at a bumblebee training day at Southill Solar. Experts from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust confirmed the identification a few days later.
