Fri 15 Aug, 02:59 (last edited on Fri 15 Aug, 03:07) The temperature and comfort-level in our house have been transformed by the installation of a simple air-to-air heatpump - a single wall-mounted unit inside & out. It doubles as an air-conditioner in summer and a heater in the winter (when it produces almost 4kw of heat for every 1kw of electricity used). We've put it at the top of the stairwell, from where it cools the whole house (except for the loft-room) - that makes it less effective as a heater, but that's only its secondary purpose. It was cheaper than I expected to buy, quick & easy to have installed, is almost silent in operation, and free to run (off our solar panels). If you're thinking of getting one, you're welcome to come and look at (and feel the effect of) ours. Just get in touch on 07555 608780. |

Wed 13 Aug, 16:53 Air conditioning is very common in Southern Europe, whereas here in the UK people seem to think that it is not allowed. That will probably change. Ps 23.5 C in the kitchen diner. |

Tue 12 Aug, 18:14 I just thought I'd mention that, whilst closing curtains can help, if you can provide shade outside your windows, this is more effective - external rather than internal blinds, for example. Stop the heat getting in. |
