Sun 10 Aug, 21:39 It now says "Later on Sunday, the vice-president’s convoy rolled into a hamlet near Charlbury, Oxfordshire, in time for tea." So somebody is reading the forum. It may be tactless to say how much I'm enjoying the peacefulness of the no-fly zone. Long may it continue. |

Sun 10 Aug, 20:51 If it's everywhere then maybe the press don't need correcting and it's deliberate. |

Sun 10 Aug, 20:38 Yes. I realise it was the Telegraph that made the mistake, and they are not alone. It was also on BBC Radio 4 this morning as part of the press review. I think it is important to correct it here as we know that the Press reads this forum. I also think that many of those demonstrating against Trump and Vance need to know that Dean and Charlbury are very different places. |

Sun 10 Aug, 20:29 The Torygraph made the mistake Christine. Apparently even though we have the pub of the year here, we're not memorable enough for them to distinguish between Charlbury and Dean. Maybe the Bull needs to do better. 😀 |

Sun 10 Aug, 20:18 (last edited on Sun 10 Aug, 20:19) I think you mean the hamlet of Dean. Dean is not part of Charlbury, and is not even a suburb of Charlbury, despite very misleading reports and articles in the Press which continue to report that Vance is holidaying in Charlbury. Dean is roughly halfway between the two towns of Chipping Norton and Charlbury. The nearest large village is Chadlington, with Spelsbury also between Dean and Charlbury. What goes in Dean does not usually affect Charlbury, although its most famous resident (David Cameron) does come into Charlbury to play tennis, drink in The Bull, and occasionally buy some fish and chips and the like. |

Sun 10 Aug, 20:04 (last edited on Sun 10 Aug, 20:09) “Dozens of police officers have been stationed at roadblocks covering every entrance and exit to the hamlet of Charlbury and will be in place until Thursday. A large antenna has been erected behind the house, which residents speculated could be a signal jammer, anti-drone system or a telecoms tower to tackle the patchy phone reception.” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/08/10/jd-vances-motorcade-arrives-in-cotswolds/ |
