How about 'Breakfast of Champignons?'  (I had the mushroom pie last week and boy was it good, just like the man said).

Tell me how that's pronounced, Charlie!

Just a reminder the Deli will be open tomorrow, Sunday, 9.00-12.00.  And if you need a bottle or two for that family lunch, bbq etc - have a look 'on the barrel' for the "Chairman's Choice"!

Which includes: local fizz from Wilcote (a Cremant, Prosecco or Champagne also available); Deidiere, our favourite Provence Rose - known to all as Deirdre; Southern Dawn SB or a Macon-Villages fer yer actual Shardonay innit; and of course a velvet smooth Bordeaux and a Cote-du-Rhone Villages to go with that steak...

More entries needed for our little competition! And one day I'll learn how to put accents on those pesky French words...

I’m not any good at other languages, but here’s an Old English attempt. Briwan Etan. But I’m sure someone can improve on it.

Nice try Valerie, I'm struggling a bit pronouncing the Dutch though!  So here’s a little Charlbury competition – to see in how many languages people can come up with a translation of ‘Ready to Eat’.  No promises but at least a free coffee and cake if we use one - but anyone suggesting it in French is on the washing up!

The Sunday morning opening is already proving popular – as I said it may take a week or 3 to ‘bed in’ so please bear with us at busy times.  And maybe pick up a bottle or two of something nice to go with your Sunday lunch – we’ll put a suitable range on display ‘on the barrel’ so they’ll be easy to see.

One more thing while I’m here.  As most readers will know, the Deli & Café has been owned and run by the community for the community for over 30 years - you’ll get the same warm welcome from the lovely staff whoever you are, wherever you’re from and whatever your religion or politics (they wouldn't dream of asking about those!).

And to keep it going, we are always on the lookout for new voluntary directors and/or business advisors, so if that might be of interest to you or to someone you know do get in touch via directors@charlburydeli.cafe.

Rod - I've had fun trying all sorts of languages, but 'ready to eat' translates in Dutch to 'klaar om te eten,' which trips quite nicely off the tongue, don't you think?  Or, in Pidgin: 'Redi long kaikai,' which sounds like an invitation to start a conga line.

Very Happy to leave JD Vance etc behind - in more ways than one!

Just a little reminder that the Deli & Cafe will be open tomorrow - and with blessings from a man in a cassock and others in lycra, how can it fail??

What a great decision! Thank you. Now my  flock at St Teresa’s, having been fed on the Bread of Life at Mass, can indulge the flesh with a delicious Deli bacon bap. Father Clive

Dean or Cornbury - pah! Far more important than where the VP is staying is the news that your very own Deli & Cafe is going to re-open on Sunday mornings (09.00-12.00) for coffee, pastries, bacon baps etc.  Starting this Sunday, 10/08.  Might take us a week or 3 to find out what works best so please bear with us - but come along and see - and who knows who you might find yourself sitting next to!

I've heard one or two people are not so happy to find custom made sandwiches no longer available.  Sorry about that but we thought it better to try to reduce the queues and feed as many as posible as quickly as possible.  But - no guarantees here ok - if you're desperate for an old favourite, phone ahead and the lovely staff will see if they can fit it in for you.  Then again, we think you'll find the selection they've freshly made that morning should give you a good choice.

I was trying to think of a name for the new range, you know, to make it sound more exotic.  So what's the French for 'Ready to Eat'?

Oh.....

PS No worries if you have some missing beans - we have plenty of new(ly) ground ones!
