Have you checked your meter readings? Are they making an estimate or is it based on the actual readings?

Had a gas meter replaced by Octopus last month after months in which “no data” available appeared on my gas account. This began in February and it took till July for it to be sorted. It was only after I instigated a formal complaint procedure…no amount of friendly emails seemed to work. I hope you manage better.

Greg Jackson, Christine. Greg James is a Radio 1 DJ (who may or may not also be an expert in electricity meters…). Hope you get it resolved, Valerie. I’ve generally found Octopus very helpful.

Valerie, guidance from Citizen's Advice about high readings on electricity and gas meters (smart or dim)  is here: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/your-energy-meter/find-out-if-your-energy-meter-is-faulty/#:~:text=If%20the%20meter%20is%20still,for%20it%20to%20be%20tested.

I don't think that getting an independent electrician to look at your meter is necessarily the best way forward! Perhaps your meter needs to be replaced. Octopus's own page about replacing meters is here: https://octopus.energy/blog/meter-certification-date/ No more dumb metres supplied, however, due to Government rules.

If you've tried everything else and still feel there is a mistake in the readings, you can email the Octopus CEO (Greg James) on Customer issues: email greg@octopus.energy He does claim to read his emails!

Can anyone recommend an electrician who can shed light on my issue with Octopus? They are trying to charge me - in my small flat - more than the typical consumption in a four-bedroom house, and of course this means that I am locked in a tussle with a bunch of youngsters with implicit faith in what the computer tells them, and lacking what me and my mates used to call a good bullshit detector.

At school I never paid attention during electricity metering classes, so I haven't a prayer of diagnosing what's wrong apart from saying that it's improbable and that I'm not growing marijuana in the bathroom. So I need a recommendation for someone with a forensic bent who can explain in language that I can pass on. Reasonable amounts of folding money offered.
