Fri 27 Jun, 12:09 There's an elderly joke that could be repurposed, saying that actually they wanted to know the time and hoped that you'd shout 'what the thump are you doing ringing my bell at one-thirty in the morning?' |

Fri 27 Jun, 12:04 Christine Battersby - you are a Charlbury Town Treasure. Astounding knowledge, incredible intellect and research, proactively and thoughtfully shared to help locals. As good as Google, and infinitely better than Wikipedia. Thank you. |

Fri 27 Jun, 11:50 (last edited on Fri 27 Jun, 11:52) Adding to my somewhat tetchy response to this query, I see BT does have Street Hubs that can charge mobile phones, but think these only make sense to install in areas where there is a high volume of traffic (especially pedestrian traffic) as they are funded by advertising on digital displays. And I am in any case not sure that we would want such bright advertising all night in our rural location. I am also not sure whether they are possible in Charlbury as they seem to require the BT full fibre network, and Gigaclear doesn't offer an alternative. There is, of course, still the BT telephone box at the station which can accept reverse charge calls, but only to landlines. And, of course, many people no longer have landlines, and we also won't have them soon. It is possible to reverse charge call from a mobile phone, but this is for when the phone lacks credit, not for when the phone needs charging. See 0800reverse.co.uk for details on how this works. |

Fri 27 Jun, 11:40 Funnily enough, we didn't invite them in but went back to sleep. |

Fri 27 Jun, 10:53 Does any town have a charging point for phones accessible outside a building? Who would pay for the electricity used? It would be liable to be greatly abused. This would be weird at any time of day. At 1.30 a.m. I would be pretty suspicious about their motives. I presume they wanted to phone their parents to pick them up. At least, I hope that's what they wanted. What they need is a power bank to carry around to top up their phones. Not difficult to arrange! I usually carry one of these. |

Fri 27 Jun, 10:29 3 teenage boys (? Age about 18) rang our doorbell at 1.30am this morning and asked if they could charge up their phones!! Has anyone else had this experience?! |
