I decided to have a look at who sponsors the "National Pub and Bar Awards", which (forgive my ignorance!) I had never heard of before. As far as I can see, the majority of the sponsors are food manufacturers of one form or another, various media-type organisations ... and not a single brewery.

Personally I would be much more interested if CAMRA voted it their POTY!

Although it's probably true that a fair number of "The Chipping Norton Set" (most of whom don't live within the boundaries of Chipping Norton) do come into Charlbury to visit The Bull, I doubt many inhabitants of the town are frequent visitors.

Murray Ward was interviewed by the BBC as a representative of the pub. I notice with interest that he is not only Cotswolds Operations Director at The Public House Group (which includes The Bull and The Pelican in Notting Hill), he also has a longstanding link with Soho Farmhouse at Great Tew. His current role at the Farmhouse is Head of Customer Experience.

I think that explains a lot -- including the plan for the July 4th Celebrations at The Bull this coming Friday. The event is surely aimed at the many US citizens who stay at the Farmhouse or have relocated to the Cotswolds, as well the numerous UK celebrities who stay or live at the Farmhouse and Great Tew, and also have homes or careers in the USA.

"Sohowerati" would be a better monicker than "Chipperati". But it certainly doesn't sound as catchy!

Chipperati?  Is this a new title for those from Chipping Norton.  This website never ceases to keep me amused. :)

OMG ... MORE CHIPPERATI braying or mockneying around Town; and clogging up the Disabled Parking Places - and too few of those spaces to start with. AND ALL VIABLE DOUBLE-LINE SPACES TAKEN TOO.

I'm not antisocial enough to block buses ...

Haven't made it out to the Rosie for 2, err, maybe, 3 years since unable to take the Mutt-Pack on the Millfield/Wigwell "circuit". They used to love visiting the Pub (probably all those nice posh Crisps, and ear rubs ).

Suppose I could borrow the Town eBicycle again and see if can still balance a bike after medical malpractice level of misdiagnosing for a labyrinth infection.

It's the hill climb and major spinal and foot injuries that wreck me.

But afraid of having circa £1500+ ebike nicked...

Maybe someone would like to throw in with me and design and build a "tadpole" eTRICYCLE with oodles of storage underneath to lift the seat up high, so to do shopping, with hill-climbing gear ratios plus powerful motors/batteries?

Got a design in mind.

I used to love buzzing around Oxford area on my Recumbents, after back injuries so limited ordinary bicycle riding.

When young one doesn't think of consequences of CALLOUS MANAGEMENT exposure to RISK for employees (serfs?) and thus consequences 40+ years later.

Depends what you mean by 'pub' (Matthew).  We seem to have forgotten the difference between an inn - albeit in modern guise - and a pub.  Not forgetting your daytime needs at the Deli & Cafe!

Wow, astonishing. The best pub in the UK is in Charlbury.  Good on them but I hope Charlbury doesn't go viral!

However, it's not even the best pub in town. That is surely the Rose & Crown...

Congratulations to all those at The Bull on your well deserved award, and also to The Red Lion in Long Compton named best pub in Warwickshire.

The Town's best-known (at least outside the Town) pub's just got a gong.

And not just the one through his nose.

But it's almost 8.30 and no-one's mentioned it? We're all getting VERY sleepy
