Tue 24 Jun, 09:03 (last edited on Tue 24 Jun, 09:04) That's a good idea Christine. I'll open a Building Society Account. Thank you. As it's a Government cheque there shouldn't be a problem. |

Tue 24 Jun, 08:02 Chase isn't listed on the PO website as one of the banks they accept. Also Chase UK doesn't accept cheques for deposits. Chase primarily uses Faster Payments and BACS for payments and accepts transfers from other UK bank accounts. If you have a Building Society Savings Account, you can pay it in to them and and then transfer the money that way. Nationwide in Witney has a machine both inside and outside their branch in Witney, but certain accounts can only be managed over the phone. If you have a suitable Nationwide account you should also be able to draw it out as cash after having paid in the cheque. Other Building Societies, eg Halifax, allow the photo transfer method. |

Mon 23 Jun, 19:47 Thank you Alan and Alice. I bank with Chase. I might try the Post Office, armed with my passport. |

Mon 23 Jun, 17:38 Hannen, when (as quite often happens) HMRC send me a cheque, I just post it with a paying in slip to my bank. Sadly, although HMRC want to be paid by BACS, they do not reciprocate. |

Mon 23 Jun, 16:47 Which online bank do you use? Most of the major banks have an online "pay in a cheque" option on your banking app which asks you for the cheque amount and then opens your camera to capture a picture of the cheque. So, you may not use a bank that does this or a banking app or a phone with a camera etc. In which case, the post office used to hold envelopes for the banks and you could put your cheque with a paying in form in an envelope and give it to the post office. They would forward it safely to the bank which would transfer it into your account. I use a bank that asks me to send the cheque to them in the post. I've done that and it worked. I don't think you can cash cheques anymore not even one from HM Gov. |
