Thank you, everybody, for some very helpful replies.  The cameras have now found a new home and will hopefully take many more pictures in the future rather than just sitting at the back of a cupboard.

As far as trying to sell, I can also recommend The Vintage & Classic Camera Co.
 https://vintageclassiccamera.com/
and for the Nikon gear the exclusively Nikon firm Grays of Westminster:
 https://www.graysofwestminster.co.uk/

I've also sold to MPB, https://www.mpb.com/en-uk, who offer very fair prices but the items listed are probably a bit too specialist for them.

In the past I have used London Camera Exchange to buy and sell equipment, and this kind of specialist shop is needed to assess condition and price. There's a branch in Oxford which has great reviews.

But Alan had wanted to donate at least some of his cameras. In the past I gave some of my equipment to a tutor on a photography course. Such courses are harder to find these days. But U3A in Witney does run a digital photography group, and it might be worth asking the group coordinator. There's also a really useful set of webpages for the Banbury Camera Club here: https://banburycameraclub.org.uk

The Olympus XA in particular is highly sought after and regarded as something of an iconic camera. In good working condition and in the original box they can go for several hundred pounds. It is regarded as one of the best travel film cameras ever made.

There is a market for such items, and I'll sell them for you if you like. 07555 608780, john@pjohnp.me.uk

Does anybody local have an interest in old cameras or know somebody who does?  I'm trying to find a sensible way to dispose of 5 old cameras (as far as I know all in working order, though most haven't been used for a long time....), ranging from a late 1950s Kodak 66 folding camera to two 1990s 35mm compacts (Pentax Zoom 105 super and Olympus XA) and two similar date 35mm SLRs (Nikon F601 AF with 3 different lenses and Minolta Dynax 505si with no lenses).

I don't want any money for them, just hoping that somebody might have a use for them - the 1950s one might even be useful as a prop for a drama group?
