Agreed, Alice. And, as I wrote elsewhere:

(As for) the "publication" that conducted a public humiliation of this man. I have one thought. In the great city of Liverpool, more than 30 years after the Hillsborough tragedy, this "publication" is still looked upon by large sections of Liverpool's people as something worthy of somewhat more contempt than Gary Glitter. If you buy it, you are almost ranked as a PERVERT. Maybe now is the time to extend that view across the whole nation, with the hope that it disappears from the shelves of paper shops forever?

It sort of takes your breath away at just how vicious and nasty this attack has been.

The Murdoch Empire seeks to undermine the BBC in whatever way it can.  If lives and reputations are destroyed on the way for no reason other than it’s ambition, “what a pity”.  Successive Governments are terrified of it.

No Murdoch products purchased in this household.  It would be nice if others joined us.  We have to stand up against these terror mongers.

Climate crisis, biodiversity collapse, our rivers running sewers, war in Ukraine, a Nato summit, public services meltdown etc etc - and all our wretched news media - especially R4 - seem concerned about is some squalid allegation about a BBC presenter and a 17 year old!!  Grrrr!!

As a certain songwriter once put it:

The gorgon headed scandal sheet

Sheds its daily bite

To give its righteous news believers

Drugs to keep them white....
