Sat 17 May 2014: "Kimber's Men - Singing Up A Storm"

This event is in the past.
ChOClive and Good Night Out, Oxfordshire's Rural Touring Scheme, welcome Kimber's Men to Charlbury.
Internationally renowned Kimber's Men, are probably the finest purveyors of sea songs, shanties and traditional music in the UK today. Their superb harmonies, foot tapping tunes and gentle humour enthral audiences everywhere.
Consisting of Joe Stead, Neil Kimber, Michael Beke, Gareth Scott and John Bromley, they play a selection of instruments, guitar, bandolin, banjo, whistles and bagpipes, and compose many of their own songs.
During his long career, Joe Stead has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall. He has toured in the USA a number of times and has performed in concert with his late friend, the American folk legend, Pete Seeger.
John Bromley was soloist in Northern Ballet's production of Mozart Requiem at Leeds Grand theatre. His vioice has been compared with that of the legendary Paul Robeson.
Their repertoire includes a wonderful acappella rendition of Shenandoah as well as traditional sea-songs such as Lord Franklin and Blood Red Roses. The emotional Don't Take The Heroes, written by Neil Kimber, is a moving tribute to all lifeboat men, especially the Penlee lifeboat crew who lost their lives attempting to rescue the crew of the ill fated coaster 'Union Star' off the Cornish coast in December 1981.
This lively group has appeared at an impressive list of festivals and major venues around the world and they recently performed on the BBC production of "Sea Songs."
Reviews for Kimber's Men:
"Kimber's Men, are something a little extra special ..... a shanty crew that everyone can enjoy!"
"For those of you that haven't seen Kimber's Men do yourselves a favour and rectify this at the earliest opportunity." Pete Fyfe.
