Thu 3 Dec: Charlbury Society Talk with Marcus Gilleard
The Campaign to Protect Rural England’s Centenary Year: What Next for Oxfordshire?
CPRE was set up 100 years ago with the aims of the ‘conservation of what is beautiful and interesting in our countryside and towns and villages; and encouragement of the right type of development’. Today, these words are just as relevant as when they were written in the 1920s and we campaign for good planning, protection from speculative development, and the enhancement of nature and accessibility of our green spaces. As we look to the next 100 years, we face some of the biggest challenges in protecting the countryside on the edges of our towns and villages across Oxfordshire. This calls for a new, invigorated way of working to overcome the unprecedented pressure of development, to protect the countryside now and for future generations.
As Director of CPRE Oxfordshire, Marcus is responsible for leading and managing this independent charity’s work across the county, helping local communities stand up for the countryside, celebrate its value, and promote solutions to protect and regenerate it. It’s a broad role which seeks to shape a greener future through influencing planning decisions and campaigning for policy change in partnership with our invaluable network of volunteers and supporters.
This talk will be held on Zoom starting at 7.30pm. Members will be sent a link in advance. Visitors are welcome for a fee of £3. Please contact treas.charlsoc@gmail.com for payment details.
