Tue 14 Apr: Morris Room Talk - Horace's Ode(s)
An hour of looking at Latin Poetry (in translation, with just a brief flirtation with the original text) as John Partington introduces us to the poem that A.E. Housman described as “the most beautiful in the Latin language” – Horace’s Book 4, Ode 7. Come and explore how Roman verse works, and how it’s been translated .. for better and worse.
The first in a series of talks in which Charlbury residents share their interests & enthusiasms. (The next is on May 1st.) 7.00 pm in the Morris Room (upstairs in the Corner House); refreshments from 6.30 pm. Entry free; donations invited.
