Dame Joanna Lumley is lending her support to a long running community campaign to secure the future of a non-profit supported living home, The Old Bakehouse, in Chadlington, West Oxfordshire at an event at Chadlington Church on Sunday 11th May
‘Summer’s Lease’ aims to raise additional funds towards refurbishment of the house – and to raise awareness of the fantastic opportunity facilities like this offer older people for communal independent living.
Dame Joanna will appear alongside Donald Sinclair, Malcolm Macleod (Composer of the week Radio 3), Karen Archer, and local musicians Arboria, Laveroc and Lionel Sainsbury.
The Old Bakehouse, Chadlington is a new charity ( Registered in England and Wales Charity number 1211853, Company number 15469613) set up to acquire and manage the facility in the centre of the village.
This type of facility is a home designed for people over 55 who enjoy a good level of independence, but need the reassurance of some support such as two home cooked meals a day. Supported living also provides companionship, reducing loneliness and associated poor health outcomes associated with solitary living in older age.
Residents at the Old Bakehouse are assured tenants with private living space and communal lounge, dining and laundry facilities. The house is an important community asset, providing supported living accommodation for up to 13 older people, often either from, or related to others in the local vicinity. Over 115 older people have found their home at the Old Bakehouse in the last 40 years.
The Charity aims to acquire and continue to operate The Old Bakehouse as a non-profit Supported Living facility, without a break in service to the current tenants, and is engaged in lengthy negotiations, now in the final contract stages, with the current owners to achieve this.
