Commuting into London for two weeks in February

As there is no forum, can anyone help? My son has to do his university placement and he is going to be travelling into London Paddington for two weeks Mon to Friday 17-21 and 24-28 of February. What is the best way to buy tickets, he has a student railcard. Any recommendations welcome he has to be in London at his placement for 9.00am which is about 40 minutes from Paddington. I presume he will finish at 5.00 or 5.30 . Thank you.
