Steam Train to Call at Charlbury

Probably, for the first time in over 40 years, a steam train will be calling at Charlbury station. It will run on Saturday 17th September 2011 (Street Fair day) and is part of the celebrations for the completion of the reinstatement of 20 miles of double track on the Cotswold Line. Aptly named "The Cathedrals Express" and hauled by a Castle Class Great Western engine, it is a joint venture between Vintage Trains and First Great Western. It will run to London Paddington.

A week before this, on Saturday 10th September, the Cotswold Line Promotion Group is organising an excursion train from Charlbury to Portsmouth, using a First Great Western High Speed Train. Details of this can be found on www.clpg.co.uk/spectrns.htm
