Power tools stolen from work van in Lee Close

Between the 22nd and 23rd of July, between 2030hrs and 0600hrs a van in Lee Close, Charlbury was broken into and tools stolen.
If you have any information please contact police on 101 and quote crime report number 43150206825.

It has also been brought to my attention this was not the only incident and that other work vans in the area have been targeted. At this time those incidents have not been reported to police. Anyone who has been a victim of this crime could you please report it on 101 and an officer from the neighbourhood team will come out to investigate. You may have vital evidence such as finger prints or other forensic evidence the police can use to catch these criminals.
If you store tools in your van please take any precautions you can to prevent these people breaking into them.

Double check you have locked your vehicle and that the alarm is set.
Whenever possible, remove tools, stock and other equipment from the van, especially when leaving it overnight.
Where possible mark your tools with your postcode.
One of the most effective security measures is a reinforced deadlock or deadbolt. These are simply additional steel locks that work independently from your standard door locks.
If you do have any information please contact police on 101

Cattle fence in Cornbury Park

A temporary electric stock fence has been installed along the footpath / permissive summer cycle route between North Lodge and Southill. This is to contain the cattle which are grazing there for the next few months. Please be extra careful when walking or cycling on the path and especially vigilant with dogs while the cattle are there.

Revd Sally Welch licensed as new Vicar of Charlbury

After a year's interregnum, Charlbury has a new vicar. Revd Dr Sally Welch was formally licensed as Vicar of Charlbury and Shorthampton, and Area Dean of the Chipping Norton Deanery, at a service in St Mary's on Tuesday evening.

The licensing was carried out by Colin Fletcher, Bishop of Dorchester (and acting Bishop of Oxford), and Judy French, Archdeacon of Dorchester and coincidentally Charlbury's previous vicar. Sally was presented with gifts and messages of welcome from the St Mary's congregation, from other churches within the town and from the wider Charlbury community. A good turn-out at the service included clergy and parishioners from elsewhere in the Chipping Norton deanery and from Sally's previous church in Oxford.

Sally's first services will be this Sunday at 8am and 9.45am.

Southill Solar gets planing permission

Fantastic news this afternoon, Sustainable Charlbury achieved planning permission for it's community renewable energy scheme, with the Uplands Area Planing Committee voting 7-5 in support of the scheme.
We would like to thank everyone for their involvement, however great or small, and the wonderful support from the community that has enabled this project to go forward. We know there is much hard work still to be done and would like to continue to work with those who have on-going reservations about the scheme. Thanks to you all once again.

Rail strike on Thursday 9/Friday 10 July (UPDATED)

The RMT is staging a strike across the First Great Western network on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th.

The Cotswold Line service will be reduced to one train only in each of the morning and evening peaks.

Update: FGW are now advising that "a two hourly service will operate at major stations between Worcester and Oxford".

A normal service will run between Oxford and London. The S3 bus runs from Charlbury to Oxford and takes around 1hr15 (note that peak buses don't call at the railway station so you'll need to walk from George Street).

Chiltern Railways services will continue to run as normal from Bicester and Banbury.
