Food waste collection coming this autumn

Charlbury's waste collections are finally catching up with the rest of the world with a new system starting this autumn.

There will be four collections:

  • a new free weekly food waste collection - for cooked and uncooked foods
  • a fortnightly free garden waste collection
  • weekly recycling ‘black box’ collections for eight different types of materials including paper, cardboard, tins, cans, plastics, aerosols, batteries, aluminium foil, textiles and shoes.
  • fortnightly household waste collections alternating with the garden waste collection

The changes will take effect with the appointment of a new contractor, May Gurney, by West Oxfordshire District Council. WODC believes it will double the current recycling rate. Information will be sent to households this summer.
