Fri 9 Dec 2016: Finstock and Ramsden Heath Military Camp in WW2

This event is in the past.

Shaun Morley and company - 7.30pm start at Finstock Village Hall
Christmas event + film:
Finstock in World War II including the full history of the military camp at Ramsden Heath.
The history of Finstock from 1939 to 1945 will examine the social history of the village, and the impact of the war on the place and its people. Using many newly-examined records, this illustrated talk will bring to life a variety of issues and identify others. What was the history of the military hospital and how important was it to the war effort? What was banned from the village hall and who flouted the ban? How did the village support the troops? And why did social activity flourish? (NOTE: On this occasion there will be an earlier start at 7.30 pm, mince pies and wine from 7:00 pm; the talk will be followed by a showing of the wartime spy movie, Cottage to Let, for reasons that will become evident from the talk. We would finish at 10.15 pm.)
