Fri 26 Feb 2021: English Beer Around the World

This event is in the past.

Charlbury Beer Festival welcomes you to an online beer tasting fundraiser, at 19.30 (UK time) on Friday 26 February

We are delighted to welcome Kris Butler and Yvan De Baets to guide us through a beer tasting session where we'll learn about the UK's influence on world beer AND support some good causes!

Grab a beer or five and join Belgian brewer Yvan of Brasserie de la Senne in Brussels and American beer guru Kris in Boston to celebrate the historic influence of English beer around the world. Which English ship had to cut its voyage short to the new world because it ran out of beer? Which English brewing technique saved a dying brewery in Belgium? Which beer recipes did John Quincy Adams bring with him from England to brew at home?

Open your first beer as they walk you through a tasting structure you can use to help you understand why you like what you like. Any beer will do! As you continue sipping, they will discuss Bitters, Saisons, Sours, and - specifically - Orval.

Pick up examples of any of these styles and drink along. Kudos if you can get your hands on any of Yvan's beers - like flagship tipple Taras Boulba! Check out www.beermerchants.com/browse/brewery/de_la_senne

You may remember Kris from our 2017 festival when she spoke in the CBF Culture Tent on 'Drinking Around the Globe'.

Ticket price: GBP 10.00 / Available via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/charlbury-beer-festival-virtual-beer-tasting-tickets-137494747491

Charlbury Beer Festival raises money for charitable causes, and Covid-19 meant we were unable to hold our annual festival in 2020, and so have no funds currently available for distribution. Since CBF was first held in the late 1990s, we have been able to distribute in excess of £250,000. Cheers!
