Sat 8 Sep 2018: Charlbury's Ride and Stride

This event is in the past.

Have a great day out, get some fresh air and exercise and help keep our historic buildings vibrant!
How many of Oxfordshire's churches and chapels can you visit on 8 September? Over 500 of them will be open and offering drinks and biscuits (and in some cases cake!) to the cyclists, riders and walkers taking part in the annual Ride and Stride.
Participants get sponsored for the number of churches they visit. Charlbury participants have the advantage that they can clock up five before leaving town. You do not have to be ambitious in planning your route and it can be a good excuse for a family picnic eg in the lovely churchyard at Shorthampton. So why not give it a go this year?
And why not add it on after the second great Charlbury Children's Bike Rally round the five churches in the morning (qv)?
You may expect a church to be there for your most memorable moments; baptisms, weddings, funerals, and these buildings do hotwire us to our national, local and family history but they receive no government support. The Ride and Stride is the main source of income for the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust which gives grants to churches and chapels of all denominations for repairs and improvements such as heating and toilets so that they can serve the communities around them into the future. You can nominate a church to receive half your sponsorship.
