Sun 11 Mar 2018: "Hidden Figures" - ChOC Film of the Month

This event is in the past.

Hidden Figures
Cert. PG / 2hrs

Inspired by Margot Lee Shetterly's book, the film tells the incredible story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), three brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanised the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

"A space-race segregation drama full of star power. Hidden in the sense of historically obscured… their contributions to the space race whilst neglected and marginalised … this trio of Nasa employees had key roles to play in getting John Glenn into orbit in the early 1960s, and safely back". - Tim Robey / Daily Telegraph
