Hagstrom Futurama Coronado Automatic guitar £1000

A rare and unusual guitar. Around 200 we’re made and about 25 are known to still exist. These were top of the range guitars back in the 60s.

This one appears to have had a catastrophic headstock break and a whole host of mods in the 70s. I think the only original parts left are the bridge/tremar vibrato, strap buttons and the body & neck. It came to me in totally unplayable condition (see last few pics) and I’ve restored it to this 70s modded style as it was unfeasible to get it back to its 1960s glory. All recent work has been professionally done.

Original lacquer and colour was stripped long ago but there are a couple of traces of the reddish burst in places.

The headstock and fretboard are not original. Headstock is bolted and glued to the H expander which is the aluminium core of the neck. The fretboard was the wrong scale when I got the guitar and removing it revealed that the truss rod has been sliced in half lengthways! Doesn’t cause a problem as the aluminium is as stable as can be. I installed the new custom made 23 fret, 10 inch radius, rosewood fretboard and fretted with Stewmac medium fretwire. It has a bone nut and the neck is super slim and quite narrow. Pickups are vintage Dimarzio. Not sure what model but they’re hot with readings over 13kOhm. Alpha pots with a fender Tonesaver style treble bleed and Sprague orange drop caps. The original tremar vibrato works beautifully and holds tune excellently. It’s all setup and plays beautifully with an excellent tone.

It has various dings and knocks. Viewing welcome
