Oxford Parkway station opens

Trains started running today from the new Oxford Parkway station, at Water Eaton, to Bicester Village and London Marylebone.

The journey to London takes around one hour. The last train leaves Marylebone at 23.10 Mon-Sat (23.15 Sun). The service is run by Chiltern Railways who have a 94.8% punctuality record, vs GWR's 89%.

There are no evening peak restrictions. A return ticket, leaving after 9am and returning in the rush-hour, costs £24.70 compared to £62.40 from Charlbury to Paddington. (It is possible, however, to get the Charlbury journey down to a similar price by buying a combination of tickets and taking a slower train in the evening.)

As well as giving Charlbury people additional opportunities to enjoy an evening out in London, it seems likely that the service will cause at least some Oxfordshire commuters to switch away from Charlbury station, relieving the pressure on car parking.

The through service from Marylebone to Oxford's central station will begin in 2016.
