Sat 1 Jul 2017: GUIDED VISIT TO WINCHESTER

This event is in the past.

A GUIDED VISIT TO THE ANGLO-SAXON CAPITAL OF WESSEX: WINCHESTER

SATURDAY 1 JULY 2017 - £35 per person, this includes, return coach, guided commentaries, visit to the Cathedral and a small donation to ACN.

In our visit to Alfred's capital in the Kingdom of Wessex, we will consider Alfred and his dynasty's achievements by exploring facets of this city and the power complex Alfred created (at one time the largest on the Western side of the Alps): the Cathedral and old cloisters (the Close), the sites of the two previous Cathedrals, the High Street, Westgate, the Castle and of course that evocative statue of Alfred himself standing outside St. Mary's Abbey Gardens (Nunnaminster- a convent founded by Alfred's sister). There will be some free time for you to explore Winchester on your own or simply sit and absorb the Cathedral's beauty.
This event is being organised to raise funds so that ACN may continue to help and support persecuted Christians, particularly in Syria
WHEN: SATURDAY 1 JULY 2017 . We will be collected by coach from the carpark at the Spendlove Centre, Charlbury at 0830 and arrive at Winchester at about 1000 traffic permitting).
