Woody Allen's gripping take on Greek tragedy with Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins

Seen by some as a tribute to 'A Streetcar Named Desire' (Independent) and by others as a contemporary version of Greek tragedy, or as 'a sharply observed, post-economic crash comedy-drama that addresses such pertinent real-world concerns as class, gender and corporate criminality', this is Woody Allen's 'best in two decades' (Telegraph) and 'pure movie-going pleasure' (Guardian).

'There's something cathartic about a contemporary film that's willing to explore madness as an expression of who a person really is.' Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins are at the top of their game: 'Blanchett is beyond brilliant, beyond analysis. This is jaw-dropping work, what we go to the movies hoping to see, and we do. Every few years.'

Why ChOC thinks you will want to see it (but can we say more?!):

'Beautifully crafted, fantastic performance by Cate Blanchett, interesting study on the human condition, and more. Gloss with depth. … It is a tour de force of acting. Woody is back in his own territory.'
