You don't have to bring something in order to take something, so please pop-in and see if you fancy anything and take it away FREE.

Bring along items from 9.30am and no later than 11am. Don't throw unwanted things out into landfill or hoard them in your garage - bring along good quality items that are not too large to carry. Items that are left over from the event are sorted and end up either being kept back for the next Bring & Take (in October), given to charity shops, or recycled where possible (last possible choice).

Bring along your old lightbulbs for safe disposal. Also bring old spectacles which we will take to Boots for reuse elsewhere in the world. Usable paint can also be brought along and any left over will be taken to Oxford Community Repaint who will put it to good use. The paint needs to be in its original container, with no leaks and a secure lid. Emulsion paint needs to have more than a litre left in the tin. Gloss or eggshell paint tins need to be more than half full.

This event is organised by the Charlbury Area Waste Action Group

Also come along to visit our stall with Sustainable Charlbury at the Farmers Market the same day 9am-1pm. This time there will be information from the Love Food Hate Waste Campaign.
Sun 14 Mar: 'The Time Traveler's Wife' - Charlbury's film of the month

Romantic fantasy drama based on the bestselling novel by Audrey Niffenegger. Eric Bana stars as Chicago librarian Henry DeTamble, who is born with a genetic disorder that causes him involuntarily to time travel when he becomes stressed.

Though he often disappears from her life for long periods of time, he tries to build a romantic relationship with Clare Abshire, an artist (Rachel McAdams). Henry, the librarian, meets his future wife Clare when she is only six years old. Chronologically, however, he meets her for the first time when Clare is an adult but Henry is only twenty-eight. At that point Clare has known Henry all of her adult life.

The novel was a bestseller in Charlbury, a tear-jerker with no holds barred, though the film puts more emphasis on imagination and adventure and is probably a bit less weepy!

This is ChOC's film of the month, screened in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm, our famous wine and beer bar open from 6.45. Tickets £4.50 in advance from News and Things, Cotswold Frames and Evenlode Books, or on the door.

Cert 12A, 107 mins

More information at www.chocfilms.info

Sun 11 Apr: "Bright Star" - ChOC's film of the month

Romance and romantic love. "A literate, lyrical love story in the age of Hollywood crass."

In the Memorial Hall, bar from 6.45, film from 7.30. Cert PG, 108 mins.

This new film from Jane Campion was given 5 stars by the Telegraph, who said: 'Director Jane Campion has a knack for portraying female characters so intimately that she seems to get beneath their skin … An exquisite piece of film-making about the doomed romance between the poet John Keats and his neighbour Fanny Brawne.'

The Guardian loved it too: 'Campion brings to this story an unfashionable, unapologetic reverence for romance and romantic love, and she responds to Keats's life and work with intelligence and grace … This film looks unselfconsciously beautiful … Poets, like musicians, need silence above all, and much of the film is played out in a deeply quiet calm.'

Rolling Stone said: 'The film, shot by the gifted Greig Fraser, is a thing of beauty to match the snippets of Keats we hear on the soundtrack. But the film would remain a concept without the right actors to give it flesh and blood. Whishaw lets us into Keats' secret, anguished heart. And Cornish is glorious, making Fanny a force of womanhood able to take on Brown (Schneider is a sharply witty irritant) when he tries to break the connection between her and her beloved. Cornish catches the fertile mind that Fanny poignantly tries to nurture, knowing she'll grow closer to Keats by deciphering the words that possess him. A literate, lyrical love story in the age of Hollywood crass. I must be dreaming.'

'Campion's best film since The Piano' Independent on Sunday

'Abbie Cornish is magnetic ... Ben Whishaw is magical' The Times Online

'Fluent, witty, moving and credible' Financial Times

'Elegant, gorgeously shot movie' Sunday Express

Tickets £4.50 on the door or in advance from Cotswold Frames, Evenlode Books and News and Things.

For up to date information on all ChOC films, go to www.chocfims.info

Sun 9 May: 'An Education': ChOC's film of the month

Memorial Hall, 7.30pm. Bar from 6.45.

In this coming-of-age story, set in 1960s Britain, Nick Hornby turns from novels to screenplays with this talent-driven drama.

Carey Mulligan (Bleak House) stars as Jenny, a young woman full of promise and intent to study at Oxford. But meeting a smooth, wealthy older man (Peter Sarsgaard) leads Jenny to believe that she can learn things outside the classroom, casting doubt on her future plans. Directed by 'Italian for Beginners'’ Lone Scherfig, 'An Education' also stars Alfred Molina, Rosamunde Pike, Dominic Cooper, Olivia Williams and Emma Thompson.

"Nick Hornby has adroitly adapted and given a dramatic shape to the bestselling memoir by Lynn Barber, telling the true story of how, in the early 1960s, she was seduced as a 16-year-old schoolgirl by an older man … It's a sad, painful comedy, and the lovely performance from Mulligan makes it a very enjoyable film." (Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian)

I suspect that many of us will actually be cheering Jenny on. She’s an ingénue, stepping out from the cosiness of suburbia to a dizzier, be-bopping universe where she gets to smoke foreign cigarettes, dance the night away, and slum it at Walthamstow greyhound stadium. 'I’m going to be French and wear black,' she declares at one point." (Sukhdev Sandhu in the Telegraph)

For more reviews, stills from the film and the trailer, click on www.chocfilms.info

This is ChOC's film of the month, screened in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm. Cert 12A, 128 mins (2009)

This tense conspiracy thriller set on the eve of World War II is based on disturbing real events.
