Last evening train from the west (20.53 from Great Malvern) eventually turned up at Charlbury ab out 1hr20 late. FGW did offer free tea, coffee etc. which is a first, I think.

Fri 22 May

Other weekday train

The 1419 from Oxford (1321 from Paddington) was cancelled as the train got stuck at Pangbourne due to suspected fatality at Goring & Streatley at 2pm. It turned out to be a drunk asleep on the track who was removed by British Transport Police, but only after closing all the tracks for an hour and causing travel chaos!

Only those who live in Goring can afford to get drunk nowadays!

07.50 Charlbury-Oxford (halts train)

Cancelled - due to the driver being taken ill, according to the conductor on the following 08:35 train, which made extra stops at the halts. As a result the 08:35 left Charlbury 6 minutes late, stopped at Finstock, Combe and Hanbrough, and got to Oxford 14 late. 9 late at Paddington.

17.21 Paddington/18.16 Oxford-Charlbury: 15 minutes' delay

This train was on time from Paddington, but left Reading 18 mins late as a result of "waiting for a member of train crew" who was "arriving on a late-running train". It left Oxford 17 late and arrived Charlbury 15 late. The logic of changing one of the train crew in mid-journey is lost on me I'm afraid.

17.51 Paddington/18.55 Oxford-Charlbury: 15 minutes' delay

Knock-on delay due to late running of 17.21 but back to the bad old days on board with no apology or explanation of what had happened

17.31 Oxford-Charlbury (halts train): 20 minutes' delay

This was over 20 minutes late leaving Oxford due to the fact there was a train on the single track into Oxford. However, we waited in Oxford until the train arrived into Oxford. Why? Usually they let the train leave and we sit at Wolvercote.

17.31 Oxford-Charlbury (halts train): 30 minutes' delay

Over 30 minutes late leaving Oxford as the train manager wasnt happy about the train having no loo! Still went ahead though.

17.51 Paddington/18.55 Oxford-Charlbury: 4 minutes' delay

Delay down to being held at Oxford to allow a freight to overtake.

Pleased to say that the promised HST did appear tonight. Perhaps they can now focus on getting one back on the 10.08.

Fri 27 Mar

17.51 Paddington/18.55 Oxford-Charlbury: 4 minutes' delay

Late tonight, which is a happily rare occurrence these days, delay was incurred before Oxford.

Of more note was that this service and the return train from Worcester were the last First Great Western services ever to be operated by an Adelante, as the three remaining sets are off to a new life, probably running between London Kings Cross and Yorkshire.

The conductor announced that from Monday this service will be operated by an HST.

07.29 Charlbury-Paddington: 30 minutes' delay

Over 30 minutes late into Oxford. Initially told it was due to signalling problems, but on the train the train manager told us it was due to the fact that a train was cancelled, and a subsequent one had to stop at lots of stations!
