Mon 1 Feb

15.51 Paddington/16.49 Oxford-Charlbury

3 car turbo (class 166) rather than the booked 8 car HST, very crowded

06.37 Charlbury-Paddington: 57 minutes' delay

Problems with the set meant it left Great Malvern 45 or so late then further delays meant it travelled in the path for the 7.26 ex CBY. Missed out its Didcot stop as well.

Thu 28 Jan

07.29 Charlbury-Paddington

Cancelled, although the 6.34 ran in its timetable 'path' more or less - it left Oxford about 3 mins before the7.26 would have done, and arrived about 5 later than the 7.26 into Paddington.

15.51 Paddington/16.49 Oxford-Charlbury

Massively overcrowded 3-car Turbo instead of scheduled HST. Who will rid me of this Turbo-lent fleet?!

Wed 27 Jan

08.33 Charlbury-Paddington: 9 minutes' delay

2 late at Charlbury. On time at Oxford but then we stopped twice on the approach to Reading. 9 late there.

15.51 Paddington/16.49 Oxford-Charlbury: 1 minutes' delay

3 late away from Reading and from Oxford, but only 1 late at Charlbury. And it was an HST.

Any Sunday train

17.36 DID to CBY. Absymally overcrowded 3-car Turbo (should have been an HST). Among my fellow passengers I spotted Ben Kingsley. Sir Ben Kingsley! I ask you FGW, is this any way to treat a knight of the realm, Oscar-winner and one of the finest actors of his generation, star of Gandhi and Sexy Beast? Grown men have wept for less than that. FGW, you should hang your sorry heads in shame!

Tue 19 Jan

08.33 Charlbury-Paddington: 24 minutes' delay

16 minutes late at Oxford - knock-on effects of single line delays from some earlier signalling problems west of Worcester apparently. Then we sat outside Oxford waiting for the platform. 25 late at Oxford, 24 late at Reading.

Other weekday train: 105 minutes' delay

11.05 CBY to PAD - 105 minutes late arriving at Oxford! No apology/explanation; also, no heat at all in the Turbo carriage I was travelling in.

Sun 27 Dec

Any Sunday train: 7 minutes' delay

12.25 CBY to LPD: possibly the most jam-packed Turbo I have ever had the misfortune to travel on. Crammed to bursting with returning Christmas holidaymakers, all with vast amounts of luggage. Some of the vestibules were almost completely blocked with trolley cases, making it virtually impossible to get on or off the train, and presumably contravening health and safety legislation into the bargain. A very uncomfortable journey between Charlbury and Oxford (and not much better further down the line). Lots of occasional travellers who will probably never use the train again. As there were big football and rugby matches taking place as well, why was an HST not deployed for this extremely busy service?

Fri 18 Dec

Other weekday train: 17 minutes' delay

13:21 Paddington / 14:19 from Oxford.
Left Paddington on time, but then delayed before Slough, switched to slow lines before, back to the fast lines after Reading and almost immediately back to the slow lines. "Tacking" isn't usually a word you associate with trains...!
17 late at Oxford and at Charlbury. No explanation.

07.29 Charlbury-Paddington

0922 at Paddington after slow running around Maidenhead due to broken down train in front

Wed 16 Dec

Other weekday train: 17 minutes' delay

15:05 Charlbury - Paddington
Previous delays meant that this train was started from Worcester Shrub Hill (instead of Hereford), and that it was then delayed on the single line. 15 late at Charlbury. 8 late at Oxford. On slow lines after Didcot, so 17 late into Paddington.
