A NEW PLAN FOR THE COTSWOLDS AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY - www.cotswoldsaonb.org.uk
Setting out policies and goals for the management of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, (AONB). The AONB covers 790 square miles and is the second largest protected landscape in England, stretching from south
Warwickshire and Worcestershire, through Gloucestershire and parts of west Oxfordshire, down to west Wiltshire and the area surrounding Bath in the south.
The five-year plan has been produced by the Cotswolds Conservation Board.
The board has two statutory purposes; to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the AONB and to increase public understanding and enjoyment of the area. In fulfilling these roles, the board also seeks to foster the social and economic wellbeing of people living in the Cotswolds. Designed as a guide for local authorities, statutory agencies and other bodies such as businesses and individuals working within the AONB, the new management plan
covers a wide range of issues that affect the Cotswolds such as; development and transport, rural land management, natural resources, biodiversity and the historic environment. There are also three key issues that influence the whole plan; climate change, globalization on land use and pressures from development, changing lifestyles and transportation.
The Chairman of the Cotswolds Conservation Board, Niel Curwen said: “The new plan not only sets out our policies, aims and objectives for the next five years but also provides a vision for the future of the AONB over the
next 25 years. This is not just a plan prepared by the board for itself. It is a plan for all those who value the area and have an interest in it.
The plan is available on the AONB website at www.cotswoldsaonb.org.uk

An early warning about the Annual Show’s change of venue on August 30th. This, the Society’s major event of the year, is normally held at the Memorial Hall but, due to urgently needed maintenance work, the Hall will not now be available. Charlbury Primary School, on The Slade, have kindly agreed to allow the Society to use the School instead. Other arrangements will be as normal.

After two years when the rain caused the Annual Parish Boundary Walk to be abandoned. This years walk went ahead successfully. Thirty walkers left the oak tree on Forest Hill just before 10.15 yesterday, Sunday 27 April.
At the start of the Saltway on Woodstock Rd we were joined by, among others, our Vicar, Rev Judy French and Her Assistant Priest, Jan Fielden who accompanied the party to the lunch stop at Ditchley Model Farm. There we were joined by a number of others who had walked or driven out via Ditchley Rd.
Folowing lunch Judy led a short service for Rogation Sunday then she and Jan accompanied the group for part of afternoon section. Jan leaving us at Enstone Rd and Judy continuing as far ths the crossing of Spelsbuty Rd.
The remainder continued alonside the Taston and Coldron brooks to the Oxfordshire Way from we headed back to Millfield and reached Dyers Hill about 4.30. The weather, despite the rain which had looked in prospect 24 hours before, was just about perfect. Whether this was due to the presence of two meteorologists in the party or the presence of four ordained Ministers at lunchtime is open to debate - perhaps honours are even!

Cotswold Voluntary Wardens have completed work to improve disabled and buggy access to the meadow adjoining the Ticknell Piece Play Area and Centenary Wood. This is part of ‘Walks On Wheels’ (WOW) a project to list a number of short walks throughout the Cotswolds AONB suitable for buggies and wheelchair users, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the inauguration of the Warden Service in 1968. The work has included installing a new wheelchair gate with RADAR lock from the Bowls Club car park, improvements to surfacing and, construction of a new ‘wheelchair friendly' path to/from the kissing gate above the play area. The work has gone ahead with the support of Charlbury Town Council, and OCC and made possible by a grant from The Trust for Oxfordshire Environment (TOE).
‘Walks On Wheels’ will be formally launched at Badmintion on May 23rd but meanwhile details of all the walks are available on the Cotswolds AONB website at www.cotswoldsaonb.org.uk/page.asp?pageID=44

From the Oxford Mail
Passengers on a bus service in west Oxfordshire will be able to use free Wifi on their journeys within a couple of months.
Stagecoach is to introduce the system on a new fleet of seven Alexander-Dennis Enviro double-decker buses based at Chipping Norton, on the No 20 route to Oxford.
Wifi allows laptop computer users - and some mobile phones - to connect to the Internet without a cable connection.
