The CSA is lead by a committee of parents, the headmistress and the school secretary and organise a variety of fund-raising events and grant applications, they also oversee the expenditure of the monies raised. The parent committee members have all volunteered and are appointed by consensus. The CSA meets approximately twice a term with sub-committee meetings for specific events in-between times.
Why we exist -
In common with other schools, our primary school increasingly relies on the CSA for a long list of classroom/school resources. In the last two years an impressive £24,000 was raised and spent on the school. A full list of expenditure is posted on the noticeboard in reception, or available on request but, among other things, the following items were funded: climbing wall and safety matting; swimming pool maintenance and lifeguard training; sound and lighting system for the school hall; library/guided reading books; playground furniture; sports equipment; art materials; three cookers and a fridge.
Our Fund-raising Events:
Past events have included: May Ball, Medieval Banquet, Casino Night, Talent Night, Auction of Promises, Quiz Nights, Summer and Christmas fairs..... to name but a few.
Annually we hold a number of different fund-raising events, spreas throughout the year. We like to arrange one gala event so if you feel committee work is not for you but would really like to arrange, with our assistance, a Gala Event then please do get in touch.
We are also trying to increase our presence in the community by working with the Street Fair committee in relation to the Open Gardens scheme and of course, the fantastic Charlbury Street Fair.

Groundforce Days
In past years a major initiative of the school and the CSA has been to improve the pupils' outside environment. Parents, staff and children have joined together to work hard on the school grounds in a series of 'Groundforce Days' which look set to become annual events.
Work completed to date includes: revitalizing the pond, planting of flower borders around the swimming pool, repairing of dry stone walls, pruning overgrown trees, and painting the fences & benches leading to a much improved space that the children really appreciate. We are now funding the building of a vegetable patch where the children will plant and tend their vegetables and hopefully be able to supply the school kitchen with their fresh produce. If you have green fingers then keep an eye out for details of the next Groundforce Day and come along and share your knowledge and expertise with us.
Project Playground
A new fund-raising appeal is now underway to raise funds to construct an adventure trail. For more details about this contact Tom Lindley, or Susan Ledgard-Hoile.
Become involved ...
To help the school to continue to flourish and offer a fresh and well-equipped environment, we all need to play our part.
You could help with CSA activities by:
- becoming a class representative (we're looking for two parents for each year group to pass on parents' views on CSA activities to the Committee and vice versa, and to help
with rotas for events and so on)
- helping on individual events (even if it's just setting up or washing up) or on specific projects if you have a money-spinning idea. Ideally, we'd like to maintain a database of
helpers
- helping with grant applications
- reading the minutes of our meetings which are posted in Reception to keep in touch with what we are doing and give us your views or advice
- last but not least, become a new recruit - join the Committee - you would be very warmly welcomed!
Sponsorship:
With all our events we aim to maximize our profit and therefore the amount of money the school can spend on new equipment and resources. Increasingly we can achieve this by
obtaining sponsorship from local (or national) businesses. If you feel you can offer some sponsorship, or your employer offers any charity schemes, please do get in touch.
No children at the school?
Even if you don't have any children at the school or if they have already left, you can still be part of the school community and help the CSA by:
- helping at an event
- giving us advice or suggesting new fundraising ideas
- making a donation and becoming a 'Friend of Charlbury Primary School' (see link below)
If you are a member of another organisation (either charity or commercial) and you have an idea for a joint fund-raising event, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
